I have found\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSharpe's use of multiple understandings of the wake and particularly of\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eundertaking wake work valuable. For Sharpe the entirety of the meanings of\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ea wake as: \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ekeeping watch with the dead, the path of a ship, a consequence of\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003esomething in the line of flight and\/or sight, awakening and consciousness\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e(18)\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eenable a form of \"wake work\" as an analytic in academic practice that\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e'avails us particular ways of re\/seeing, re\/inhabiting, and re\/imaging the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eworld' (22).
