Data from fourteen languages are analyzed from a cross-linguistic and typological perspective, following a functional-constructivist or a natural morphology approach. Main issues addressed are the development of directives and modulations of information in terms of certainty and evidentiality in mother-child conversation. One of the main findings is that agent-oriented and propositional modality may develop in parallel depending on the typological characteristics of the language acquired. A decisive factor is whether notions of propositional modality are grammaticized and obligatorily expressed in the language. \u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Walter de Gruyter","offers":[{"title":"Paperback","offer_id":45127560265879,"sku":"9781501520716","price":2907.0,"currency_code":"INR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0666\/3471\/1191\/files\/9781501520716.webp?v=1767903699","url":"https:\/\/atlanticbooks.com\/products\/development-of-modality-in-first-language-acquisition-a-cross-linguistic-perspective-9781501520716","provider":"Atlantic Books","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
