This one is entitled: Mutterings of a Madman 9: Trump and Autocracy. The chapters in this book are a compendium of letters the author wrote to his family during the four years of the Trump presidency, a presidency that he suspects will be ranked lower than that of James Buchanan. These letters reflect his observation and analysis of events happening during several years in the Trump presidency. The author feels that Trump was not reelected president because, as explained in his letters, of his demonstrated incompetence in four areas.First, Trump's reputation as a businessman is based upon the Apprentice television show. Trump's true business is 'branding' (selling his name) while his actual business experience has resulted in bankruptcies and default on loans. He had no government experience, no experience in international diplomacy, and during the Tariff War with China his bluster cannot compete with the experience and tariff imposition strategy of Xi Jinping.Second, Trump's incompetence was demonstrated in his handling of the Covid Pandemic which resulted in over 260 thousand dead Americans and over 13 million nationwide cases. Although repeatedly warned of the pandemic's seriousness, he did not or could not develop a national strategy to contain the pandemic instead he proclaimed it was not his responsibility but that of the state governors. His advisor on the pandemic was a Neuroradiologist who had no experience in either viruses or pandemics and believed and advised Trump on the benefit of herd immunity.Third, Trump's incompetence was also demonstrated in his handling of the economy. The author feels that Trump administration's economic strategy is based upon three major pillars: authoritarianism, international isolationism, and economic protectionism. That is, Trump is authoritarian by nature and makes his decisions by impulse without input from any White House advisors. The author says Trump's tax cuts for the rich are not investments in our children's future but will simply increase our national debt which will mortgage the future of our children. Fourth, Trump's authoritarian instinct has blinded him to the benefits of multilateralism. Trump believes in international isolationism and does not want to be restricted by binding multilateral treaties. According to the author, he did away with TPP allowing the dragon to continue to rise in the East and wants only to negotiate individual treaties. His authoritarian tendency is also the reason why he espouses the philosophy of America First which is really a philosophy based on economic protectionism and with no economic dependence on foreign nations.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Independently Published","offers":[{"title":"Paperback","offer_id":45569223098519,"sku":"9798575564720","price":1831.0,"currency_code":"INR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0666\/3471\/1191\/files\/9798575564720.webp?v=1767935966","url":"https:\/\/atlanticbooks.com\/products\/mutterings-of-a-madman-9-letters-to-my-family-on-trump-and-autocracy-9798575564720","provider":"Atlantic Books","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
