A Handbook of Literary and Critical Terms (Paperback - 2019)

There is no dearth of books on literary and/or related terms. However, any new book of some worth is invariably expected to add something new to the old depository. Since the 1980s, thanks to the proliferation of high-tech communication devices and fast shifting socio-political factors; globally everything, be it philosophy, literature and/or science, has been varying its jurisdiction, shape, size, tone and contour almost every day. H-Shihan’s book on Literary Terms has an eye on the requirement of this changing scenario. Since the book is a rebuilt on an old chassis, it is a renovated version and the contents are thoroughly reworked. In addition to the popular terms, some new ones have been accommodated, which include entries from Indian, French, German and American critical schools which the students of literature (English literature especially), would frequently and/or habitually need to refer back to. An additional feature of the book, wherever possible, a short bibliography below the entry for further reference is added. Any further suggestion and/or complaint regarding the book, its merits and demerits will be highly appreciated and taken care of in due course of time. I. H-Shihan, retired Associate Professor of English, and later, Fellow Emeritus (UGC, New Delhi), is now associated with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). He did his Masters and PhD at the Universities of Burdwan and Kalyani respectively. The fictional and/or literary treatment of cross-cultural liaison in Anglo-Indian, expatriate American and Postcolonial writings happens to be his core area of research. His published works comprise a Bengali book of limerick, Kanishker-o Mathai Haat (2017) and English works like Anglo-Indian Fiction: A Brief Outline (2016), Ruth Prawer Jhabvala’s Heat and Dust: A Critical Study (2006), An Imprint Handbook of Select Literary and Critical Terms (2005) and Under the Alien Sky: Cross-cultural Encounter and Culture-shock Syndrome in Some Novels on India (2001), some university study materials and, of course, some articles and contributions to books and journals. He has completed three research projects funded by the UGC, and so far, Dr.H-Shihan has participated in several national and international English conferences in India and abroad.
