The book attempts to provide an understanding of issues and theories relating to the developments in global politics that have always changed in response to the happenings around the world. It tries to explain why we study international relations, world politics and global politics. It also makes clear the difference between these three.

It analyzes the historical developments that affect international relationships, the silent contemporary global trends and the evolving relations among all transnational actors. It explores the conceptual and theoretical understanding of international relations, world politics and global politics beyond historical facts. It also introduces the leading theories used to interpret international relations.

An attempt has been made to understand and explain changes in global politics and study the evolving situations that often surprise us. Many thematic shifts in emphasis that capture the latest changes in the way the scholars and policymakers understand the major problems of the world have been examined.

The text provides an inculcating coverage of the most important issues on the global agenda, including instability and the eruption of armed conflicts, issues regarding human security, problems relating to discrimination against women, challenges posed by terrorism, and global warming. It explores the role of the state and also its changing nature in all three stages, i.e., in international politics, world politics and global politics. There has also been a reconsideration of developments driven by various factors, including growing dissatisfaction with theory and methods-driven research.

Sheveta Sehgal, Ph.D., M.Phil, M.A. (Political Science), is an Assistant Professor at A.S. College, Khanna. She has research experience from Panjabi University, Patiala and JNU, Delhi and published many papers in journals of high repute and contributed articles in anthologies. She has also presented a number of papers in national and international conferences, and has co-authored two books.
