Perspectives on Teacher Education (Paperback - 2020)

The book Perspectives on Teacher Education is based on the new NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) syllabus for B.Ed. programme taught in Indian Universities. The book discusses the policies, procedures, and provision designed to equip prospective teachers with the knowledge, attitudes, behaviours, and skills they require to perform their tasks effectively in the classroom as well as in society. It considers the transmission model of teaching—a system in which experts transfer knowledge to prospective teachers. It discusses the reflective teaching methods, which consider the teacher development as an ongoing process of experiencing practical teaching and learning situations, reflecting on them under the guidance of an expert, and developing one’s own insight into teaching through the interaction between personal reflection and theoretical notions offered by the expert. The book also compares the teacher education programmes of U.K., U.S.A., Russia, and India.

The book will be useful for B.Ed., M.Ed., M.Phil., and Ph.D. students of Education as well as for in-service teachers and educators. It will also be useful for various competitive examinations related to teaching such as KVS, NVS, CTET, and other state level examinations.

Pathak, Ph.D. (Education) from BHU, M.A. (Ancient History, Sociology and Sanskrit), M.Ed., is Head and Dean at Department of Education, SLBSR Sanskrit Vidyapeeth (Deemed University) (A Unit of MHRD, Govt. of India), New Delhi. He has 30 years (UG level—8 years and PG level—22 years) teaching experiences in various institutions of repute, such as University of Gorakhpur, NCERT, IGNOU, SCERT (New Delhi), M.D. University (Rohtak) and LBS Vidyapeeth (New Delhi), teaching B.Ed, M.Ed., M.Phil. and Ph.D. classes. He has published 64 books in different aspects of education and a number of articles in national and international journals of repute.
