The subject dealt with in this volume is the joint venture of frontline patriots of great Bengal and greater Punjab under the Joint stewardship of Shri Amir Chand of Delhi and Rash Bihari Bose of Pondicherry. to assassinate the Viceroy Lord Haroinge on the occasion of STATE ENTRY on 23rd December 1912, to mark the shifting of Capital from Calcutta to Delhi. As the procession was passing through Chandni Chowk a bomb struck the Howdah of the elephant, on which His Excellency and lady Hardinge were seated. His Excellency, seriously injured, was at once taken to Viceroy Lodge. He could not preside over the Darbar held in the Red Fort. The tragic and unique event snook the foundations of the British Empire. Thirteen persons were arrested in Delhi and Lahore between the 10th and 18th February 1914, including Shri Amir Chand but Rash Bihari Bose escaped from his residence in Lahore. Statement of approver Dina Nath was recorded at Lahore by a Magistrate on 24th February 1914. The Lawrence Garden Lahore bomb blast of 17th May 1913 was combined with the Delhi Bomb outrage of 23rd December 1912. A case for murders was instituted on 17th March 1914 in the Court of Mr. Cunnaly I,C.S against 14 persons declaring Rash Bihari Bose as an absconder. He committed 11 accused to sessions under various charges of murder and possession of explosive substances on 12th May 1914. The Session Judge transmitted the charges of murders into a conspiracy and passed judgement order on 15th October 1914, sentenced 3 to death, 3 to transportation and released the 7th. On an appeal by the Government, a two judges bench of the Chief Court Lahore sentenced four to death, 2 to transportation for life and one to 7 years rigorous imprisonment on 10th February 1915.
