The Challenge of Islamic Renaissance (Hardbound - 1989)

This book is a definite contribution towards understanding the challenge of Islamic renaissance by an international readership all over the world. It presents not only a rational interpretation of Islamic resurgence in the present day world, but it also brings Islam in juxtaposition to other religions with a choice for the reader to determine his course; for Islam is a progressive, dynamic, enlightened, peaceful and forward-moving force, which threatens no one and, on the contrary, welcomes cooperation with all those willing to do so.

The fundamentalism of this work vitalized the claim that Islam is the only choice while its orthodoxy leavened the doctrine of this great religion. According to Professor Giuseppe Buricchi of Rome, the author is a “Muslim fundamentalist, a Muslim by birth, and a great Muslim scholar through a life dedicated to studies”. In this study and such other works of his as “Islam the kingdom of Allah,” “Islamic polity in modern times” and “Islam the only choice,” his scholarly approach to the subject reached its culminating point.

The author tried to highlight the axiom that Islam reformed is Islam no longer. The logical derivation that ensures will be to regard Islam as the norm by which the world is to be judged: an enterprise which is intricately linked with the drive for and the achievements of the Islamic resurgence. The impact of the call for the revival of Islam is felt all over the world, for Islam is not militant but peaceful and, above all, a definite force for establishing world-wide lasting peace. Islamic renaissance, therefore, has a positive role in promoting the cause of international peace.

Syed Abdul Quddus is a national figure of international stature. He is among the foremost thinkers of Pakistan and his writings are regarded of immense value even by the foreign critics. Being the author of several internationally recognized books, he has leadership all over the world. He is not only a re¬searcher and scholar of Islam but a philosopher and political scientist in his own right. According to Professor Giuseppe Buricchi of Rome, he is among the great philosophers of the present day world and may be compared not only with Giamnni Gentile of Italy but with Bertrand Russell of England and Jean-Paul Sartre of France.

He is an intellectual, author, bureaucrat and humanist (such an impossible combination). Born and brought up on one of the fashionable quarters of an alien land, Quddus has lived more in the tribal society of Baluchistan than in his own. But as a restless person, he roamed from place to place enjoining peace of soul and acquiescence of mind. Being professor emeritus, he travelled far and wide with a mission to preach and teach. In 1987, he participated in an International Didactic Course in the University of Rome. During the same year he had a study tour of Italy, Switzerland, France and Britain.

He joined the Federal Government of Pakistan through the Central Superior Services in the year 1961, and held various positions of responsibility in public service. He is married in one of the renowned and foremost tribes of Baluchistan.
