About The Book

The book has been written to familiarize the students of Library and Information Science programs as well as help those working in different library environs and interested in the techniques and methodology of information analysis, consolidation and repackaging to meet their clientele. This area of information consolidation and repackaging has been evolving for the last many years as a result of the efforts made at the international level. The librarians and information professionals have since long been involved in the generation, acquisition and processing of information and producing various information services and products. The change in the outlook of scientists, researchers and academicians has made information services and products much more important. They now want various type of information services and products at the right time and in the right format which are considered convenient for use by them in view of their needs. This book covers all the aspects of information analysis, packaging, repackaging and consolidation so as to enable the students and working professionals to understand various steps, processes and methodologies. It covers theory and practice of indexing, abstracting, and other related aspects such as knowing the information requirements of users, designing and developing information consolidation products, including handbooks, newsletters, state-of-the-art reports, trend reports, technical digests, etc. It provides the latest marketing strategies oriented to popularize the judicious use of these products. It will be useful for students and teachers of Library & Information Science at all levels.

About The Author

Sewa Singh obtained his education from Kurukshetra University and Panjab University from where he earned his Ph.D. degree in Library Science in 1984. He has been a practicing librarian and teacher of Library and Information Science for about 37 years. He has been Head of the Department of Library & Information, Science at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. He also had a brief stint as University Librarian, and retired as Professor from the same university. He has published more than 20 books, contributed 170 articles in various professional journals in India and abroad, and has many reports, and book reviews to his credit. He also has published an article in the world famous Encyclopedia of Library and Information Science, edited by Allen Kent, et al. He has participated in many national and international seminars and conferences during his professional career. He has also served on many committees, boards, bodies of different universities. Dr Sewa Singh is a life member and former Vice President of Indian Library Association as well that of the IASLIC (Kolkata). He is the Life Member of the Society of Information Science, Association of Government Libraries and Information Systems, IATLIS, and Punjab Library Association. He is also on the Editorial Board of many professional periodicals published in India. He has been listed in many biographical sources in India and abroad, including the Roster of Information Scientists, Marquis’ Who’s Who, American Biographical Institute, Cambridge Biographical Institute, India Who’s Who (INFA), etc. He has been associated with the UGC Curriculum Development Committee, and completed UGC projects also. He has been honoured by many societies and associations including IASLIC.
