About The Book

The book presents the history of Indian English Fiction which has expanded exponentially during the preceding two decades of 21st century. Besides documenting more than 1400 novels published during this period, it comments on and categorizes around 400 of them. The book has been divided into two parts: In the first part, a brief history of the noticeable works by authors of Indian origin has been taken up. The survey categorizes different types of novels with themes like individual psyche, relationships, family structures, socio-economic issues, history, politics, myths, region, crime, travel, terror, romance, campus, corporate, science, and so on. The second part of the book deals in detail with selected fiction penned by some leading and a few promising authors, from a particular theoretical angle such as postcolonial, feminist, race studies, new historicist, psycho-analytical, sociological analysis, structural narratology, etc. The book will serve as a valuable resource for students, researchers, and faculty members. It will also help general reader interested in fiction to select suitable novels according to his/her taste.

About The Author

Dr. Jagdish Batra, an academic, writer, and social activist, is a full Professor of English at O.P. Jindal Global University, Sonipat, India, which he joined in 2012 as the Founding Head of English Language Centre. Prior to it, he worked as Head of PG Dept. of English and Principal in different institutions. During his more than three decades of teaching career, he has guided some fifty research scholars. His areas of specialization include contemporary Indian English fiction, culture studies, and literary theory. He has presented papers as also presided at several international conferences in India, Europe, and South-East Asia. A former Rotary Study Exchange Scholar to USA, he has published more than sixty research papers in leading journals apart from eight books including T.S. Eliot: A Deconstructive Reading; Rohinton Mistry: Identity, Values, and Other Sociological Concerns; Form and Style in Indian English Fiction; A New Approach to Literary Theory and Criticism, and Postcolonial Literature Today.
