कथक के प्रसिद्ध लखनऊ घराने के सर्वश्रेष्ठ कलाकारों में से एक शाश्वती सेन, अपने गुरु पं. बिरजू महाराज की कल्पना से उपजे संस्थान कलाश्रम की प्रेरक-संचालक शक्ति हैं। उन्हें संगीत नाटक अकादमी पुरस्कार, संस्कृति पुरस्कार, ंगार मणि पुरस्कार और क्रिटिक्स रिकमेंडेशन पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया जा चुका है। उन्होंने अन्य स्थानों तथा अवसरों के अतिरिक्त वाराणसी में रिम्पा (रवि शंकर इंस्टीट्यूट फॉर म्यूजिक एंड परफॉमिंग आट्स) महोत्सव, भोपाल में और जयपुर में कथक प्रसंग तथा प्रतिष्ठित खजुराहो महोत्सव में नृत्य प्रदर्शन किया है। नई दिल्ली में भारतीय कला केंद्र में रेबा चटर्जी विद्यार्थी से प्रारंभिक प्रशिक्षण पाने के बाद सन 1969 में उन्हें संस्कृति मंत्रालय की राष्ट्रीय छात्रवृत्ति प्राप्त हुई। इस छात्रवृत्ति के अंतर्गत उन्होंने पं. बिरजू महाराज का शिष्यत्व ग्रहण करके उनकी सबसे प्रमुख शिष्या बनने तक की यात्रा पूरी की। Saswati Sen, regarded as one of the best exponents of the famous Lucknow gharana of Kathak, is the driving force behind Kalashram, Pandit Birju Maharaj’s dream institution. She has received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, the Sanskriti Award, the Shringar Mani Award and the Critic’s Recommendation Award. She has performed at the RIMPA (Ravi Shankar Institute for Music and Performing Arts) festival in Varanasi, the Kathak Prasang in Bhopal and Jaipur and the prestigious Khajuraho Festival of dance, among others. After her initial training under Reba Chatterjee Vidyarthi at the Bharatiya Kala Kendra in New Delhi, she was awarded the National Scholarship in 1969 by the Ministry of Culture. She then graduated to become one of the foremost disciples of Pandit Birju Maharaj. He is primarily known for technological inclusion, innovation, work determination and quality in Hindi Journalism. He is currently employed as a UP Correspondent in Maharashtra’s leading daily newspaper Lokmat Times. As a translator he has translated several books based on politics, Ayurveda and Art, from English to Hindi and vice versa.
