La Academia de Plat�n, que fue la primera escuela en Occidente, era un parque ubicado en la periferia de Atenas. Habr�a sido impensable para S�crates, Plat�n o Arist�teles imaginar un espacio cerrado donde se pudiera aprender algo significativo. La an�cdota de Tales de Mileto, que habr�a ca�do a un pozo de tanto mirar al cielo, es el reflejo elocuente de esta disposici�n de aprender caminando, y en modo peripat�tico. El libro Construir y habitar la escuela pone en relieve el olvido de esta experiencia vivida del espacio y lugar como acciones originarias del saber y habitar humano en el mundo. La entrada a este restablecimiento es guiada desde dos verbos que en el texto se articulan de forma correlacionada, construir y habitar. Al mismo tiempo, se formula la idea de que la escuela es ella misma un verbo, una acci�n, y no simplemente el lugar vac�o de una estructura protocolizada por normativas de ejecuci�n. El edificio de la escuela, habitualmente concebido como objeto externo, en donde ocurren simplemente las cosas, es desplazado por la idea de su propia arqui-tectura, i.e. del arj� (ἀρχή) y texto (τέκτων). Por tanto, la arquitectura se reinterpreta m�s cerca del arte (manual) que de la ingenier�a (proyectiva). Evidentemente, este desplazamiento no es solo un asunto sem�ntico, sino una decisi�n estrat�gica, que consiste en poner en ruta la relaci�n fundante entre la acci�n pedag�gica y el lugar vivido de la escuela, desde sus configuraciones, y sentidos, y de sus propias articulaciones. Adem�s, se indaga en otras posibilidades para la escuela, generando alternativas transformadoras del edificio escolar. Se requiere volver a percibir, sentir, escuchar, y movernos de otra forma, frente a las escaleras taxon�micas de las disciplinas, predefinidas por el sistema educativo. Se necesita, literalmente, caer en otra gravedad, y, sobre todo, en otro espacio, y transitar varias veces del lado inverso de las cosas. La cl�sica sala de clases con bancos en l�nea no solo no facilita esa experiencia, sino que el sistema educativo en su conjunto clausura ese movimiento, y las posibilidades m�s genuinas de degustaci�n del saber y habitar humano en el mundo.
