They include line, shape, texture, color, form, and value. The principles of design guide how the elements are to be used. They include unity, focal point, variety, contrast, balance, movement, rhythm, pattern, proportion, and perspective.

Because the child of God desires to see the glory of his Maker in creation, the lessons also place a strong emphasis on observation. Expression, or how art communicates, is treated as well, along with some art history.
