Im Herbstsalon von 1863 stellte Edouard Manet sein Gem�lde "D�jeuner sur L'herbe" aus und l�ste damit einen Skandal aus, der die Geburtswehen eines neuen Stils ausl�ste: Der Impressionismus entstand in Paris. Im selben Jahr bildete sich in Russland eine Gruppe von K�nstlern, die ein �hnliches Programm wie die franz�sischen Maler verfolgten. Sie nahmen ihre Staffeleien mit nach drau en und versuchten, das Licht auf ihren Leinw�nden einzufangen. 1907 wurden die K�nstler der "Fauves" und der "Nabis" zum ersten Mal in Russland ausgestellt. Im selben Jahr pr�sentierten einige junge russische K�nstler ihre Werke unter dem Titel "Die Blaue Rose". Unter diesem Namen schlossen sich die Maler Pavel Kuznetsow, Martiros Sarjan, die B�hnenbildner Nikolai Sapunow und Sergei Sudeikin, die Zeichner Anatoli Arapow und Nikolali Feofilaktow sowie die Bildhauer Alexander Matwew und Piotr Bromirski zu einer Gruppe zusammen, die in den folgenden Jahren Ausstellungen der franz�sischen Impressionisten und Post-Impressionisten organisierte.

Guerman, Mikhail: - Dr. Mikhail Guerman ist Professor für Kunstkultur an der Pädagogischen Fakultät der Universität St. Petersburg und Leiter der Abteilung für die Moderne Bewegung am Russischen Museum. Er ist Mitglied der Internationalen Vereinigung der Kunstkritiker und hat mehr als dreißig Bücher sowie zahlreiche Artikel über die russische Kunst des späten neunzehnten und frühen zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts verfasst.
