Divided into four parts, the book provides in-depth coverage of all major topics in this area. The first part on fundamentals of genetic engineering includes concepts, such as gene cloning, enzymes used in genetic engineering, synthesis of nucleic acids, and techniques like gel electrophoresis and polymerase chain reaction.

The second part on vectors used in gene cloning covers the basic biology of plasmids, ë phages, other cloning vectors, and the strategies adopted for their application in gene cloning. In the third part, generation and screening of recombinants are described. This part includes detailed discussions on DNA ligation, DNA delivery methods, construction of genomic and cDNA libraries, and screening of transformants.

The fourth part on applied genetic engineering covers DNA and protein sequencing, molecular markers, gene silencing, antisense RNA technology, and in vitro mutagenesis. Safety regulations related to genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are also discussed.

About The Author

Dr. Smita Ratogi and Dr. Neelam Pathak are faculty members in the department of Biotechnology, Integral University, Lucknow. They have been teaching 'Genetic Engineering' and 'Molecular Biology' to postgraduate and undergraduate students. Both of them are PhDs in Biochemistry from Lucknow
University. They have several articles and publications to their credit.
