Born in paradise, but shaped by survival.

Behind the beauty of Grand Cayman's turquoise waters and white sand beaches, Debra P. Larmond lived a life marked by trauma, resilience, and an unrelenting determination to rise. From fleeing violence as a child to becoming a mother at seventeen, from enduring abusive relationships to facing a manslaughter charge that changed her life forever, her journey is one of raw truth, faith, and transformation.

Through homelessness, heartbreak, and public scrutiny, Debra refused to let her past define her. Instead, she rebuilt her life from the ground up-finding healing through forgiveness, faith, and the courage to begin again.

Born in Paradise Living Through Hell is more than a memoir; it is a testimony of survival, redemption, and God's grace. It is a powerful reminder that even after walking through hell, you can still rise, rebuild, and become whole.

Larmond (Hydes), Debra P.: - Debra Hydes Larmond was born and raised in the Cayman Islands, a place the world calls paradise. But behind the turquoise waters and white sand beaches, her early life was marked by instability, violence, and survival. As a child, she ran from danger in the night. As a teenager, she became a mother at seventeen. As a young wife, she found herself trapped in the very cycle of abuse she had once vowed never to repeat. In 1984, a tragic night changed the course of her life forever. A violent struggle with her intoxicated husband ended in his death, leaving Debra to face the courts on a manslaughter charge. She had to journey a painful season of four months behind bars, public scrutiny, homelessness, and the long, difficult journey of rebuilding her life from the ground up.Rather than allowing her past to define her, Debra chose transformation. She pursued her education at the International College of the Cayman Islands and went on to serve in government, first as a police and prison officer, and later retiring as a Supervisor in the Department of Computer Services. Throughout her career and personal journey, she carried with her the resilience, discipline, and faith that had been forged through adversity.A devoted mother, stepmother, and proud grandmother, Debra considers her greatest joy to be breaking generational cycles and creating a life rooted in safety, prayer, and peace. She is now happily married and often describes her story as "delayed but never denied," a reflection of God's faithfulness through every season of her life.Through her writing, Debra shares her story with raw honesty, wisdom, and spiritual conviction. From unfinished concrete walls that became her sanctuary to the healing power of forgiveness, family, and faith, her journey is not only about surviving, but about rising. Her life stands as a powerful reminder that even after walking through hell, it is still possible to come out whole.
