Flying for France with the American Escadrille at Verdun is a memoir written by James R. McConnell, an American pilot who fought in World War I. The book chronicles McConnell's experiences as a member of the Lafayette Escadrille, a group of American volunteer pilots who flew for the French army before the United States entered the war. McConnell provides vivid descriptions of his training in France, his first combat missions, and the dangers and thrills of aerial combat. He also writes about the camaraderie among the pilots and their relationships with the French soldiers they fought alongside.
