Glimpses is a deeply personal memoir of a very long and impactful life that began during the Great Depression of the 1920s, continued through the Second World War, and evolved into a lifetime of service, from the author's volunteer work with early feminist organizations in Canada, which helped push through new governmental programs and protections for women, to advocating for equal-rights regulations and invaluable programs designed to help victims of spousal and domestic abuse. Working with the church and various service organizations, the author also embarked on a number of children's aid missions in the Global South, with a focus on offering a helping hand-rather than a "hand out"-to impoverished or embattled communities around the world.

With first-hand experience and a lifetime's worth of insight into a life truly spent in service, Glimpses is the perfect read for anyone concerned about advancing and achieving equality of rights and opportunity, interested in twentieth century history, or simply wanting to gain a better understanding of their relationship with faith and spirituality.

Shepherd, Audrey: - Audrey was born in 1928 to a working-class family in Montreal. Married at nineteen to her husband, Roy Shepherd, she spent the next several years raising a family of three children and taking part in church and community life. Her interest in the women's movement led to appointment by the federal government to its Advisory Council on the Status of Women and from there her life changed.

In addition to championing the cause of women in Canada, she was active in concern for the world's children and spent the next ten years working for a children's charity. This work took her to Africa, Asia and the Caribbean initiating, monitoring and evaluating feeding and education projects in partnership with local churches. For her work in these and other spheres, Audrey was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Gold and Platinum Medals.

Now, at the age of 98, this political activist, wife approaching 80 years of marriage and great-grandmother has sat down long enough to write this book for those who come after her.
