Written from the perspective of a mentee shaped by his guidance, Dr. Shangri-La Durham-Thompson traces how Rev. Dees became a fearless voice for justice, self-identity, and servant leadership in every community he served.

In Bermuda during the late 1960s and early 1970s, Rev. Dees confronted inequality head-on, including the high cost of living, consumer exploitation, and the everyday pressures that eroded dignity. Alongside fellow pastor Rev. John Brandon, he helped mobilize community action that contributed to the establishment of Bermuda's Consumer Affairs Bureau, a public legacy that endured beyond their time on the island.

This book also follows Rev. Dees beyond Bermuda, capturing the breadth of his leadership and the conviction behind it. And it does not ask you to take the story on faith alone. The second half of the book preserves an anthology of primary materials in full, including speeches, letters, magazine pieces, and historical articles, so readers can see the record for themselves.
