Through conversations with her father, old documents, family stories, and genealogical discoveries, Cristina uncovers the painful history of the Chuetas of Mallorca: descendants of converted Jews persecuted by the Inquisition and the Holy Office, marked by the so-called cursed surnames, and forced to carry the weight of stigma for generations.

This book travels from Palma de Mallorca to Barcelona, from Uruguay to Puerto Rico, following the traces of those who resisted, migrated, concealed their faith, changed names, protected secrets, and survived.
