About The Book

Peter Cartwright was not a preacher made for soft chairs, stained glass, and easy roads. He was a man of the saddle, the wilderness, the camp meeting, and the open frontier. Born in 1785 and converted during the mighty revival fires of the early 1800s, Cartwright became one of the most unforgettable Methodist circuit riders in American history. He preached with boldness, called sinners to repentance, saw multitudes touched by the power of God, and helped spread Methodism across the frontier. His voice rang out in cabins, fields, churches, and camp meetings, declaring that Christ could save, deliver, and transform any soul.

But Peter Cartwright was more than a revival preacher. He was also a courageous opponent of slavery, a man willing to stand against the sins of his generation. In an age when compromise was easy and conviction was costly, he chose the path of conscience.
