Hunt, Peter: -

Peter Hunt, the only child of John and Margaret Hunt, was born in Brighton in July 1940 but, at the age of five, began his life as a child in post-war Hong Kong. At the age of seven, this idyllic life was shattered when he was sent back to England to enrol in two Catholic boarding schools, the preparatory school, Worth in Sussex and the public school, Downside in Somerset.

His education was completed at Trinity College Dublin, where he left to live in London and embark on a career in advertising and marketing. These years are covered in his two previous biographies, the first entitled, A Child of a Bygone Era and the second, The Growing Pains of a Colonial Boy.

This, the last in the trilogy, covers his life in London during the 1970s and 1980s, the two decades that revolutionised our way of life. During them came the age of the computer and the age of consumerism. The traditional world based on production turned into one based on consumption. Peter, living the trend, began his retail shop, Slick Willies and his import/wholesaler, American Actionwear. Slick Willies is still going strong today.

What is delightful about these books is how Peter intermingles history with the vicissitudes of his own life and his comments are made through awareness and a gentle humour.

His next book is a history entitled, The Extra Ordinary Women of France. He has been working on its sequel The Extra Ordinary Women of Britain which has now been published.
