Jung has never treated the "psychology of religion" as a distinct discipline from general psychology. The unique significance of his work lies in his discovery and exploration of religious, or potentially religious, factors within his broader investigation of the unconscious and his therapeutic practice. In Answer to Job, first published in Zurich in 1952, Jung uses familiar theological terms such as "God," "wisdom," and "evil" as key elements in his argument. However, Answer to Job, perhaps Jung's most controversial work, is less a theological essay and more an examination of the symbolic role that theological concepts play in an individual’s psychic life.
