Przedstawiono przegląd zastosowań 2-trichlorometylobenzimidazolu (TCMB) w chemii analitycznej. Nieoczekiwanie stwierdzono, że bezbarwny TCMB reagowal gwaltownie z pirydyną w temperaturze pokojowej, dając produkty o intensywnym zabarwieniu. W reakcjach z niekt�rymi innymi heteroaromatycznymi związkami zawierającymi azot (w tym pestycydami), takimi jak azyny, azole lub benzazole, r�wnież dochodzilo do tworzenia podobnych produkt�w. Reakcja byla regioselektywna, ponieważ obie pozycje α sąsiadujące z atomem (atomami) azotu nie mogą byc podstawione, a także wrażliwa. Jednak pr�by opracowania dozymetr�w nikotyny zakończyly się niepowodzeniem. W reakcji przedchromatograficznej aromatycznej o-diaminy z trichloroacetylo-metylo-imidytem powstaly in situ pochodne TCMB. Po przeprowadzeniu analizy TLC i wizualizacji w oparach pirydyny zastosowano je do wykrywania o-fenylenodiamin. Wyizolowano i zidentyfikowano produkt reakcji amarantowej TCMB i pirydyny (kompleks LI). Zaproponowano dwa r�żne mechanizmy reakcji dla azyn i azole. W wodzie kompleks LI może byc stosowany jako wskaźnik w analizie soli nieorganicznych oraz w miareczkowaniu kwasowo-zasadowym. Praca jest skierowana do naukowc�w i student�w chemii organicznej lub analitycznej.
