So ist es in der momentanen Lage umso wichtiger zu entscheiden, wie die Verschuldungskapazität eines Unternehmens bestmöglich ausgeschöpft werden kann. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird hierzu auf die Verhältnisse von Steuern, Fremdkapital und Leasing eingegangen. Ein besonderes Augenmerk wird hierbei auf die Austauschbeziehung von Leasing und Fremdkapitalaufnahme gelegt. Nach der vorherrschenden Meinung der Finanztheorie sind Leasing und Kreditfinanzierung substitutiv zu sehen, andere empirische Studien ergaben eine komplementäre Beziehung der beiden Finanzierungsarten. Die vorliegende Arbeit versucht dieses Rätsel zu beschreiben und die verschiedenen Ansätze zu erläutern.
