About The Book

Die vorliegende Studie zur Geschichte des rheinisch-westfälischen Unter- nehmers stellt eine überarbeitung meiner 1955 abgeschlossenen Disserta- tion "Entwicklungstendenzen im Rheinisch-Westfälischen Unternehmertum von der Begründung des Zoll vereins bis in die ersten Jahre des Deutschen Reiches" dar. Die Bearbeitung hatte zwei Ziele. Einmal sollte sie eine Straf- fung der Darstellung erreichen, zum anderen aber neue Fragestellungen, ver- besserte Begriffskategorien und Erkenntnisse der jüngsten Forschung berück- sichtigen und verarbeiten. Dagegen war es mir zeitlich nicht möglich, neu es Quellenmaterial in bedeutendem Umfange zu erschlie en. Für Anregung und Förderung meiner Dissertation bin ich Professor Ra- senberg, Berkeley, USA, und Professor Herz/eId, Berlin, sehr verbunden. Ihre überarbeitung und Drucklegung wurden ermöglicht dank der freund- lichen Förderung und Unterstützung von Verleger Dr. Middelhauve, dem Kultusministerium des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen und der Sozialfor- schungsstelle an der Universität Münster in Dortmund.
