About The Book

Antecedentes: Na Eti�pia, a desnutri��o infantil � um dos problemas de sa�de p�blica mais graves e apresenta uma das taxas mais elevadas do mundo. O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a magnitude e os fatores de risco associados � desnutri��o entre crian�as em idade pr�-escolar na regi�o de Hawassa, no sul da Eti�pia. M�todos: Foi realizado um estudo transversal baseado na comunidade com 358 pares de m�es e crian�as com idades entre os 6 e os 59 meses, entre fevereiro e mar�o de 2012. O peso e a altura das crian�as selecionadas foram medidos e as caracter�sticas sociodemogr�ficas dos participantes foram recolhidas atrav�s de um question�rio estruturado. Foram realizadas an�lises de regress�o log�stica para identificar preditores de desnutri��o. Resultado: A preval�ncia de desnutri��o na comunidade foi de 43,6% de baixo peso, 53,1% de atraso no crescimento e 28,2% de emacia��o. Conclus�o: Verificou-se uma elevada preval�ncia de desnutri��o na �rea de estudo. Assim, deve ser considerada a implementa��o total dos programas de combate � pobreza e devem ser tomadas medidas adequadas para apoiar as fam�lias carenciadas com crian�as.
