Die Betriebsgrö e wird im wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Schrüttum vor allem unter den beiden Fragestellungen untersucht, wie alternative Betriebs- grö en die Produktionskosten und das Marktverhalten der Unternehmen beeinflussen. Die erste Frage ist ein Gegenstand der Produktions- und Kostentheorie, während die zweite Frage für die Theorie der Wirtschafts- politik im Hinblick auf marktbeherrschende Unternehmen bedeutsam ist. In der vorliegenden Schrüt wird die Betriebsgrö e unter dem Aspekt der langfristigen Planung der Unternehmen behandelt. Wirtschaftspolitische Erwägungen werden dabei nicht berücksichtigt. Für die Planung der Errich- tung oder Erweiterung eines Unternehmens oder eines Gliedbetriebes wird dessen Grö e aber nicht allein nach kostenwirtschaftlichen 'überlegungen ausgerichtet. Vielmehr wirken sich auch die zu erwartenden Erträge und die verfügbaren finanziellen Mittel entscheidend auf die Planung der Betriebs- grö e in ihren drei Dimensionen, der Kapazität für jede Produktart, der Produktionstiefe und der Breite des Sortiments, aus. Nach einer Explikation der tragenden Begriffe und einer Erörterung mög- licher Ma grö en für die Betriebe in den ersten Abschnitten werden im dritten Kapitel auf der Grundlage eines Systems von Anpassungsprozessen im Hinblick auf die Planung der Betriebsgrö e die verschiedenen Arten der möglichen Abhängigkeit zwischen den Kosten und der Kapazität für Ein- produktartunternehmen bei konstanter Produktionstiefe dargestellt. Im vier- ten Kapitel wird versucht, die Hypothesen über diese Abhängigkeit auf Grund empirisch-statistischen Materials auf ihren Wahrheitsgehalt zu über- prüfen.
