El agua es indispensable para todas formas de vida de nuestro planeta: el ser humano, los animales y toda la naturaleza que nos rodea. Este recurso que cae del cielo, que brota de fuentes y que fluye en ríos para desembocar en el mar parece ser infinito. Pero esta riqueza es una ilusión: Solo el 2,5 % del agua en la tierra es agua dulce y de esta pequeña cantidad, dos tercios no son utilizables para nosotros. Están encerrados en terreno permanente congelado, en la nieve, en hielo y en los glaciares. Periodos de sequía de larga duración y la extensión de desiertos son solo algunas consecuencias visibles del cambio climático. Más del 70 % de la superficie mundial consiste en agua salada y a causa de que las capas de hielo polar se derriten, el agua dulce preciosa se mezcla con el agua del mar.
