About the Book This book enables young chemists to appreciate the importance of chemistry in creating a society better able to manage its impact on the ecosphere. It presents chemistry in the context of its environmental impact (past, present and future) and the changes needed to bring about a more sustainable world. The importance of reconciling the needs of humankind with the protection of the environment is widely recognized. This book represents a starting point that allows the reader to put their knowledge of chemistry in the wider context of contemporary environmental concerns. It stresses the importance of rigour in the collection and treatment of evidence and reason in decision-making. Aimed at a wide community of undergraduates, it is broad in scope.
