In a land called Inchickery, there lived beautiful flying bugs that played by a little stream during the daytime. But at night, when no one was around, they turned into beautiful fairies that helped to make the forest grow. Each evening with just one wave of the wand, they could turn the nastiest weed into a beautiful flower, full of blossoms that were loved by everyone. Well, almost everyone In the four areas of Inchickery, there lived all sorts of creatures, and some did not take kindly to the fairies going around making everything nice and pretty. "I HATE PRETTY " Trollby the troll could be heard shouting each morning on seeing the forest all nice and clean. And he wasn't alone. The huggles and bugles, ogres, grumpy ground bugs and even more grumpy trolls than Trollby were heard to say, "I will have the squishy mud, the swarthy weeds, the sticky brambles, the stinging nettles, and the sinking swamps. Mark my words." First-time author Martin Carter grew up in Inchicore, a suburb of Dublin, Ireland. "My godson inspired me by asking me a question when he was only three years of age. We were walking in a local city park and passed by a little stream with lots of tiny little bugs milling around. My godson asked what the bugs were doing flying on top of the water. I told him they were not really bugs, and when no one was around, they would turn into magical woodland fairies. The seed was planted and the story grew."
