This book is the first book in the series of The Adventures of Reese and Rufus. In this book, we tell the story of how our daughter met her favorite stuffed animal, Rufus, who would later become her comfort during each medical encounter. We use age-appropriate vocabulary and realistic pictures to reduce the fear that children experience in unfamiliar environments like the emergency room. As I created ways to decrease my daughter's fears, I thought that every family should be able to do the same. Additionally, my books promote the representation of healthcare providers from historically underrepresented minority groups.

Carter, Alita-Geri: - Alita-Geri Carter is the CEO and founder of The Commission for Health, LLC. At the age of 14, Alita decided that she would contribute to society by starting a business that would educate, train, and connect community members with resources. In 2009, Alita graduated from Bowie State University with a bachelor's degree (Bachelor of Science in Nursing). Alita received her graduate degree (Master of Science in Nursing) from the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2013. Later she became certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Motherhood has challenged Alita to become a better human and more astute clinician. She currently works in the public health sector and looks forward to publishing more books in the future.
