About The Author

Jawaharlal Nehru (1889–1964) was a pivotal figure in India’s journey to independence and the nation’s first Prime Minister. Educated at prestigious institutions in Britain, including Harrow and Cambridge, Nehru brought a broad intellectual perspective that blended Western ideas with a profound appreciation for India’s rich cultural heritage. A close confidant of Mahatma Gandhi, he played a leading role in the Indian National Congress and was instrumental in mobilising the masses against British colonial rule. Following independence in 1947, Nehru dedicated himself to building a secular, democratic India, promoting industrialisation, scientific advancement and social reform. His vision of a pluralistic society rooted in tolerance and unity helped lay the foundation for modern India’s political and social institutions. Nehru’s leadership during the formative years of the republic left an indelible mark on the country’s development and international standing, making him one of the most respected politicians of the 20th century.
