Gender Divide and Women Empowerment in the Digital Age quests to generate ideas for future research with an emphasis on the need and importance of universal access to ICT and digital technologies in light of the existing digital divide in India. It investigates the degree of persistent divide from varied perspectives and studies the extent of digital and information literacy, especially among women. In tandem with the growing influence of technology in our everyday lives, the book takes a pan-Indian perspective with special focus on the states of Assam, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, discussing the means and modes of negotiation women undergo to access digital spaces. Based on the outcome of Sansar Shakti project, the book explores how women employ technology in their everyday life, facilitating individual and collective empowerment while reconceptualizing their private and public spaces. Bringing individual experiences and stories of women to the fore, it takes a deep-dive into their changing nature of agency after becoming a member of a community-based organization in the wake of accepting mobile phone technology and mobile-enabled services.
