While all of the above are true, she actually spends most of her day hunched over a computer keyboard - or a scanner. Allen has loved old magazines since childhood, when she discovered her family's stash of vintage Life Magazines and Saturday Evening Posts in a closet. She was probably the only kid in high school to actually have a collection of Victorian fonts and page decorations - a special treat from when her commercial artist dad would let her tag along on a visit to the art supply store. In England, Allen made the thrilling discovery that one could acquire magazines that were much, much older than that vintage box of Lifes - and the rest, as they say, is history. Literally. Allen now curates a collection of thousands of articles from Victorian periodicals on her VictorianVoices.net website, and produces the monthly Victoriana magazine "Victorian Times."
