A Space in My Mind unfolds through Cloud, a demure adolescent, as the central character in a novel being written by a debutant novelist who has been battling a midlife crisis. In the novel, Cloud lives his life in all its simple variations, but the comfort of his life is often disturbed by the interventions of the debutant author, who wants to act out the role of Cloud. Tension prevails between them, despite many chance moments of empathy, until the strangest reality dawns upon both the debutant novelist and Cloud. What subsequently transpires reveals the finest elements of the relationship between the novelist and his character, alongside extraordinary moments of debut novel writing.

Endorsements

"A uniquely imagined, mesmerising narrative about the preoccupation of a writer with his 'character' … the tussle between the writer's creative muse and the everyday reality of his selfhood. The story unfolds to reveal the intense, conflicting … inner world of a writer, posing the question: what then, is literary creation?"

—Kavery Nambisan Surgeon and Novelist

S. G. Sreejith is a Professor of Law at O.P. Jindal Global University. An author and editor of many articles, books and chapters on a variety of jurisprudential themes, he is in pursuit of alternative means of expression. A Space in My Mind is his first novel. The self is the locus of his writing, and its experiences and memories are the sources of his imagination. His style—both academic and fictional—is a constant pursuit of new narrative horizons rather than something fixed or absolute. He is currently working on his next metafictional novel, Fill Not the Emptiness in Me, which explores the convergence of death, memory and life.
