This book could easily have been titled FORMATTING MADE EASY and FUN. It is written so that you, the reader, can easily understand and apply every formatting task needed to produce a professional-looking book.

The author took pains to spell out every step about formatting as she formatted it, being careful NOT to leave out the minutest detail. A person who has no formatting experience and very little computer knowledge can successfully format a TO-BE BOOK by following her directions.

Tutorials are separated into 56 easy-to-read (mostly short) chapters. Directions are clear and repeated throughout the book and technical terms are underlined.

Readers will be surprised at how many step-by-step visual aids for formatting front matter pages and chapter/section titles are included. You will learn how to insert your author name, book title and page numbering correctly in Header & Footer areas and you will learn how to modify styles and "the whys" of many formatting rules.

The author also includes glitches you may encounter and how to resolve them, plus two methods for inserting page numbers. If you follow her directions, you will end up with a professionally formatted book you will be proud to share with others.

Knowing how-to books can be boring to read and, at times, difficult to follow, the author purposely invented a sidekick, Phantom, to challenge her throughout the book. Hopefully, Phantom will mitigate your learning frustration and make your journey into the mysterious, scary realm of formatting enjoyable.

Although the author is a Mac person, she took into account both Mac and PC people write books. Thus, PC directions are intertwined with Mac directions (hopefully in all the right places) and a Mac to PC conversion chapter is included.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Entering the school of hard knocks at birth, struggling through college while raising a family during her 30s, directing a counseling business for 25 years, chiseling stone and molding clay to keep her sanity during her mid-life crisis, jumping into the writer's pool at age 70 . . . All this and much more make up author Mary Korte's legacy. Thankfully, today she shares life with a wonderful, supportive husband. The two live in the Seattle area and winter in Arizona. When it comes to writing, versatility is Korte's strong point. She loves melding fantasy with reality, rising to challenges and venturing into the unknown. Her creative side pushes her to think outside the box, to do the unexpected. To date, Korte has eight books to her credit. They are: - FIVE EQUALS ONE - a 3-volume Christmas story boasting a thought-provoking message about ethnic diversity. NOTE: This series is not for kids under age 6, but it works well as a family read for kids who no longer believe in Santa Claus. - BULLY JAKE AND GRACE'S FATE, HATS OFF TO MR. BOAR, and MY MIND IS TOTALLY MINE - a 3-book rhyming parody series that allow readers to get into the minds of acting-out middle school students. NOTE: Most of the pages in these parodies contain less than 50 words-a definite draw for kids. - ONLY A SHOEBOX TO HIS NAME - showcases the tenacity of a foster child born crippled during the Depression. His story leaves one wondering if the insensitivities of the Welfare and medical systems contributed to him developing an inappropriate behavior, one he managed to keep hidden. - FORMATTING YOUR FANTASTIC BOOK, A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE FROM IDEA TO PRINT - a how-to book for authors who want to self-publish but know little-to-nothing about formatting. This book garnered a 2018 CIPA (Colorado Independent Publishers Association) EVVY Finalist award. Mary invites you to visit her website at www.HavetPress.com
