Este volumen dedicado a la obra de Jorge Semprún (1923-2011) se ocupa de los dos aspectos principales de su producción escrita: sus obras autobiográficas y sus novelas. El primer apartado trata, en primer lugar, de las obras en que Semprún dio cuenta de su experiencia como deportado en el campo de concentración de Buchenwald al final de la II Guerra Mundial, que lo encumbraron como uno de los grandes escritores de la llamada literatura concentracionaria; en segundo lugar, el autor analiza la autobiografía de infancia y de adolescencia de Semprún; y, en tercer lugar, las autobiografías políticas dedicadas a sus periodos como uno de los dirigentes del PCE clandestino (1950-1964) y como ministro de Cultura español (1988-1991). Se cierra este volumen con el análisis de sus novelas, cuya retórica el autor del presente estudio aborda (como en el primer apartado) desde ángulos no meramente literarios sino principalmente pragmáticos y hermenéuticos.

Jaime Céspedes Gallego es profesor de Historia de la España contemporánea en la Universidad de Artois en Arrás (Francia). Doctor de la Universidad de París-Nanterre, licenciado en la Universidad de Murcia, director de la sección de Estudios Hispánicos del Institut Universitaire de Formation des Maîtres de Martinica de 2006 a 2010, entre sus publicaciones destacan La autobiografía española de los años 1990 (Nanterre, CRIIA, 2005) y su edición del volumen Cinéma et engagement: Jorge Semprún scénariste (CinémAction, n° 140, 2011).
