Mary Tudor: An Historical Drama In Two Parts is a play written by Aubrey De Vere, which tells the story of Mary Tudor, the daughter of King Henry VIII and his first wife, Catherine of Aragon. The play is divided into two parts, with the first part focusing on Mary's early life and the second part detailing her reign as queen of England.The play begins with Mary's childhood, including her mother's struggles to maintain her position as queen and the eventual annulment of her parents' marriage. As Mary grows up, she becomes increasingly devout in her Catholic faith, which puts her at odds with her father's Protestant beliefs. When her half-brother, Edward VI, takes the throne after Henry's death, Mary is forced to flee to the countryside to avoid persecution for her beliefs.After Edward's death, Mary returns to London and is proclaimed queen, but her reign is marked by violence and religious persecution. Mary is determined to restore Catholicism to England and orders the execution of many Protestants, earning her the nickname ""Bloody Mary."" The play ends with Mary's death and the ascension of her half-sister, Elizabeth I, to the throne.Overall, Mary Tudor: An Historical Drama In Two Parts provides a dramatic and engaging portrayal of one of England's most controversial monarchs.
