The Learned Women is a play written by French playwright Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, also known as Moliere. The play was first performed in 1672 and is a satirical comedy that explores the theme of gender roles and education. The story revolves around Chrysale, a wealthy man who is married to Philaminte, a highly educated woman who is obsessed with knowledge and learning. Philaminte's sister, Armande, is also highly educated and is engaged to Clitandre, a young man who is not interested in education.The conflict arises when Chrysale's younger daughter, Henriette, falls in love with Clitandre and wishes to marry him. However, Philaminte and Armande are against the marriage as they believe that Henriette should marry someone who is as educated as they are.The play satirizes the idea that women should only focus on education and not on love and marriage. It also explores the idea that education can sometimes lead to arrogance and pretentiousness. Through witty dialogue and humorous situations, Moliere critiques the societal norms of his time and questions the role of women in society.Overall, The Learned Women is a thought-provoking play that challenges traditional gender roles and highlights the importance of love and happiness over education and knowledge.HEN.
