“Cartography and Geoinformatics” seeks to introduce the map science of Cartography and its modern supportive technologies collectively termed Geoinformatics in straightforward terms so that it is intelligible to the reader. It is thus supposed to serve as an accessible sourcebook for teachers and students on this complex subject. Covering several upend technologies—like Aerial and Satellite Remote Sensing, GIS, GPS, and the Internet—which are becoming all-pervasive in the modern globalized world, the book refrains from the Blackbox approach. It emphasizes explication of the knotty concepts and principles in simple terms practically without recourse to hardcore mathematics or science. The book presents fundamental concepts of Cartography, including some of its internal aspects as well as aerial and space Remote Sensing, GIS, and GPS. Finally, it takes a panoramic view of the whole field to deduce its current trends and conclusions.

Prof. Jawahar Lal Jain taught Geography and particularly Cartographic and Geoinformatic subjects at the Department of Geography, Dr. Harisingh Gour Central University, Sagar, MP. He augmented his early moorings in Photogrammetry, with several training courses in geoinformatic technologies at premier national institutes.
He is founder life member of the Indian National Cartographic Association (INCA) and was its president for 2005 when he convened the 25th INCA Conference at his University. He updated and enlarged his teacher, Late Prof. N.P. Ayyar's book, Survekshan (1979) (‘Surveying' in Hindi) for its second edition (1996). He prepared a substantial typescript, Concepts and Principles of Remote Sensing (1992) for Refresher Course in Geography. Scores of his published research papers and presentations at seminars, etc.—often on urban, Cartographic and Geoinformatical topics—bespeak of him as a veteran in these fields.
Over the years of his retired life, he pursued his profound interest in Cartographic literature and artefacts at the renowned map centers or libraries like Harvard, Cornell and Brandies Universities and Boston Public Library in US, and Melbourne University Library and the Victoria State Library in Australia. Even long after his superannuation, he remains active and updated in his field.
