The crisis first in Latin America and in the economies of East and South East Asia has generated a lively discussion on the benefits and pitfalls of the process of liberalisation and globalisation. It has also led to questioning of the more or less uniform conditionalities and structural reforms prescribed by the I.M.F. and the World Bank for providing financial assistance. With the immense success of the first two volume, the third volume of Liberalisation and Globalisation of Indian Economy discusses these and many other issues, paying special attention to the discussion of the respective roles of the market and the state in any programme of rapid development without creating social tensions. The present volume includes papers written by twenty-two economists spread over the entire country.
Dr. K.R. Gupta, a well-known economist, published about a dozen books and more than hundred papers in leading national and international journals. He taught post-graduate classes and guided research for about two decades at the University of Jammu and Kurukshetra University. He also worked as an economist in private as well as in public sector.
