In earlier times, the means of transport were limited, and due to the social system prevalent then, women had to spend their lives within a restricted sphere. Therefore, a woman's travel was generally limited to her parents' home (Māyka), in-laws' home (Sasurāl), maternal uncle's (Māmā), or paternal aunt's (Buā) home. Consequently, due to this limited sphere, the vocabulary in a woman's speech was restricted to this environment. Therefore, the compilation of words spoken by women when they had a 'Discussion' was called a Dictionary. Discussion + Nāri (Woman) = Dictionary.

Śabd (Word) + Koś (Treasury/Collection) = Śabdkoś (Vocabulary/Thesaurus).

Whereas men constantly used to travel to many places. They wandered through various countries, regions, cultures, and civilizations. Therefore, the compilation of words spoken by men was called a 'Śabdkoś' (Vocabulary/Thesaurus). Śabd (Word) + Koś (Treasury/Collection) = Śabdkoś (Vocabulary/Thesaurus).
