British literature covers so much ground that it is often difficult for the teacher or student to know where to start. New Perspectives in British Literature presents comprehensive views of literature of the Renaissance, the Restoration, the Romantic period, and beyond. The anthology provides an introduction to the major writers and the main themes in British literature and offers a critical discussion of important debates engaging with concepts such as postmodernism; the impact of feminism and gender in literary studies; the rise of postcolonial literary theory; and the place of British literature within broader debates in contemporary culture.
The book offers a thought-provoking analysis of a wide range of British writers. The width and depth of topics, styles, materials, and authors is simply staggering and will be of immense relevance to all the pursuers of English literature.
This book will be a useful tool for readers wishing to know more about Britain's great literary tradition, for students pursuing English studies, for teachers and researchers in search of novelty and for libraries in need of an accessible reference work on this perennially interesting subject.
Incorporating recent developments in the field, the anthology entices students to explore the subject further and also provides new syntheses that will be of interest to scholars.
