The God of Small Things, the international best seller by Arundhati Roy, has raised numerous questions. Is it a piece of anti-Communist propaganda? Does it distort social reality? Is it a cheap imitation of the western fashion in novel? Does it offer nothing but play with words? The present book examines the novel sociologically and answers all these questions well. The book also shows that the novelist cares for the neglected in the society like women, children and dalits and even the environment. She conveys messages so relevant to our society and our age.

Amitabh Roy, son of an eminent Sanskrit scholar, was born in July 1974. He obtained his M.A. and M.Phil. degrees in English from the University of North Bengal. He started writing early and contributed to Bengali periodicals almost regularly for years. He reported to some Bengali Dailies for sometime and was associated with the All India Radio, Siliguri too. Eradication of superstitions and promotion of rational thinking has been his main concern. He writes poems in Bengali and English and contributes articles to the Symposium, a journal of English literature published from Malda. He is lecturer in English at Sitalkuchi College in Coochbehar district of West Bengal.
