Twentieth century American Literature is characterized by important movements in drama, poetry, fiction, and criticism that took shape in the years before, during, and after World War I. The eventful period following the war left its imprint on books of all kinds. Literary forms of the period were extraordinarily varied, and the leading authors tended towards radical technical experiments in drama, poetry and fiction. The book comprises articles which are different in style and content. An attempt has been made to select and analyze representative works of American writers for examining varied nuances of American Literature. The select literary works have been considered in the perspectives of textual analysis and implied critical literary theory of canonical literary authors such as T.S. Eliot, John Dos Passos, Arthur Miller, Toni Morrison, Lorraine Hansberry, Robert Frost, Neil Simon, Bertrand Malamud, Langston Hughes, Norman Mailer, Ayn Rand, and Thom Gun, which form the epicentre of discussion. A comprehensive study of literary genres of poetry, prose and drama reveals a complex interplay of ideas that go into the making of different ideologies related to American Literature of the twentieth century. The book will provide wide reading to the students and teachers of American Literature and will also be useful for researchers in this field.
