The first edition of Hazardous Trees: A Pictorial Library is an overview of basic tree biology in relation to wood strength and weaknesses. The photographic technology of today serves as an excellent opportunity to highlight a wide range of tree structural weaknesses as they relate to potentially hazardous conditions to things in proximity. Proper tree assessment and maintenance techniques addressing these potential weaknesses will be highlighted. Specific hazard tree assessments, the author's general hazard assessment for a wide range of tree species and establishing a monetary value to specific trees, whether historical in nature or standing naturally in a forest stand, will be highlighted.

Carmichael, David D.: - DAVID, a two-time graduate from the Nova Scotia Agriculture College, now Dalhousie Agricultural campus, graduating from Plant Science with a minor in Horticulture as well as Landscape Horticulture Technology. David also achieved a certificate from the Maritime Forest Ranger School for Nursery Tree Seedling Production techniques. David spent 30 years working with the Province of P.E.I. as a horticulturist. His service commenced at the Bunbury Nursery in 1990 and included providing retail sales, extension services and cultural information for native and non-native trees, shrubs, vines, annuals, perennials and pests to the public, industry, and government agencies. Bunbury Nursery was established by Mr. Robert Cotton, and with an accompanying trust fund the nursery operated to beautify landscapes of Prince Edward Island from the mid-1940s through to 1996. Upon closure of the Bunbury Nursery, David moved on to work at the provincial reforestation nursery, the J. Frank Gaudet, namesake of the provinces' first forester. Here David assisted in the production of native tree, shrub, and vine nursery stock for reforestation and landscape industries as he continued to deliver a broad range extension to clients. Previous employment included work in the hydroponics, agricultural and ornamental landscape industries.
