The story it tells is the harmonious and charming one of a true orchard: daffodils, orchids, and dahlias sprout from its pages, cultivated masterfully by the ineffable Herbert Pinnegar, responsible for the garden of the Charteris mansion. With Pinnegar we learn that patience, tenacity, and gratitude are necessary virtues for those who are exposed to the rigors of the seasons and fleeting splendors. Don't we want a world in which we all have a gardener inside? Published in 1950, the idea of ​​the garden was embraced in a society that has just overcome a war: a dream place, a metaphor for the good life, and a promise of happiness.

Reginald Arkell was a British writer and screenwriter, best known for his humorous works. He grew up in Gloucestershire, where at a very young age he trained as a journalist and began to write for the theater. After serving in the army during World War I, he focused his production on comic booklets for musicals, including 1066 and All That, an acclaimed parody of British history. He was also the editor of Men Only magazine and author of four volumes of garden poetry: Green Fingers, More Green Fingers, Green Fingers Again, and And a Green Thumb.
