About The Book

This book is a single source, concise presentation of what pilots should know about basic aircraft systems. The content reflects the author's more than thirty-five years experience of flying and fourteen years of teaching Aircraft Systems to university students. Aircraft Systems for Pilots includes a brief study of the fundamentals of physical matter (from which airplanes are made) and mechanics (how airplane parts act and react). The author provides sufficient study of each type of system to allow the professional pilot to stay abreast of the critical learning which must occur as the pilot advances into management of more complex aircraft. Subject covered include physics, aircraft engine types and construction, reciprocating engine theory of operation, engine lubrication and cooling, propellers and governors, fuels and fuel systems, power management, supercharging and turbocharging, pressurization and high altitude operations, electrical principles, electrical components, aircraft electrical systems, hydraulic systems and landing gear, pneumatic and deicing systems, aircraft structures and flight controls, weight and balance, inspections, pilot maintenance, and aircraft instrument systems. Illustrated throughout, study questions conclude each chapter and includes index. About The Author

de Remer, Dale: - Dale De Remer bio: Dale received his Bachelor of Science degree from California State Polytechnic University. While completing his Master of Science and Ph.D. at Utah State University, flying became a part of everyday life. He has owned and flown a myriad of different airplanes, seaplanes and helicopters and taken an active part in their maintenance. He served as corporate pilot, agricultural pilot and chief pilot for various companies while logging over 24,000 hours total time in general aviation aircraft of many kinds. Dale holds ATP, CFI-A, CFI-H, CFI-I and MEI licenses with single- and multi-engine land and sea, rotorcraft-helicopter and instrument ratings. For 17 years, Dale taught advanced wilderness seaplane pilot courses to pilots from many states and several foreign countries. He has more than 22 years experience teaching university level aviation courses and retired with the rank of professor emeritus of aviation from the University of North Dakota. During his 18 years of teaching aviation at UND he conducted advanced wilderness seaplane courses, flying into the Canadian arctic, Alaska and the jungles of Central America. He is recognized as a NAFI Master Flight Instructor. In 1998 he was inducted into the National Association of Flight Instructors Hall of Fame at Oshkosh. He retired from UND in 2000 but continues to write; he is the author of 8 books.
