From far and wide the darling dolls arrive at Awelek Bryn

The school that shows them how to be contented dolls of ten

With badgers in the hedgerow, and tales of hidden door

A missing benefactress, and tea and scones galore

With romps upon the misty moor in search of Bodwin Beast

A spring recital, trances and celebratory feast

The knitting by the fireside, and shrubberies that talk

With piskies and a baroness and coastal paths to walk

With flying cakes and epic dreams and getting lost in mazes

And learning how to drink and blink to see exotic places

Please come to Awelek Bryn with me, Lavinia and Millie

The dolls may touch your very heart; it's jolly to be silly

Ralston, Farris Lynch: - Farris was born and raised on a farm in southern middle Tennessee. She graduated from The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, in 1980 and went on to teach elementary school in Jacksonville, Florida, and in New York City. After a decade of living away, she returned to her native state where she raised twin sons. She currently lives with her husband in the mountains near her alma mater. Miniature furniture has fascinated Farris since she was a child, and she maintains that there is always space for one more tiny thing. Her 1:12-scale 'boarding school' was the springboard for this story. Except for their clothing, the wooden dolls in the illustrations were created by Judith Sotriffer in her studio situated in the Val Gardena, a valley in the Dolomites. Farris enjoys photography and botanic gardens, especially those in England. On travels, she loves to discover windy, desolate places, and a trip to Cornwall in the 1990s satisfied her yearning. Thirty years later, her impressions of moors and coastal footpaths found their way into this novel. The gardens and manor house in the illustrations are from her more recent travel photos. Farris asks that you kindly consider sharing your impression of this book in an online review. 'Your appraisal will help Millie and Lavinia to find the right humans.'
